Kermit in Kermit, Texas

This time I was extremely excited about the trip, because we were bound to the city of Kermit, Texas. I heard that there is even a street named after me. No question, we had to go there! We flew to Dallas and from there we started a 7 hour road trip right into the West Texas Desert.

It was a long drive, with almost no turns.

There is not really that much out there.

Ah, we were not alone. “Helloooo!”

I guess nobody is living there anymore.

The entire area is full of pumpjacks from the oil industry.

It was quite stinky at times.

Luckily we found a gas station in the middle of nowhere, as we almost ran out of gas.
On our way to Kermit, we pased through Wink, a tiny city not far away from Kermit. It seems they have more old broken cars than people living there.

This is ‘downtown’ Wink with the city hall.

This is one of the many deserted houses.

And here are some of the numerous old cars. It looked almost like an outdoor museum.

“Nothing more to see here. Let’s go!”

We almost left the city when we saw this – ‘Kermit Avenue’!

Not as busy as I thought.
We continued the drive to Kermit. After a couple of miles we made a brief stop.

There is really nothing. Not even some flies!

“It doesn’t look like we are almost there.”

Only 9 more miles.

“This way, this way!”

“Hurray, we finaly made it!”

It looks nicer than Wink. Well, at least a little.

They even have stores here…

…and a hotel. I really like the names.

Howdy!

Here we are in front of the Kermit city hall.

I should become a fan of their football team.

Doesn’t this look great!?

Is that supposed to be me???

Do you know anyone else on this planet, who got his face painted on a water tower? Unbelievable!

This is what I liked the most in Kermit, the “Kermit Boulevard”.

On our way out of the city, we noticed this nice sign.

As you can see, I was very happy on the way home.
This was a very special trip for us and I cannot believe that it took us so long to finally visit Kermit. Now I am wondering if there is a city called ‘Piggy’ somewhere…

  • Thanks for that – I didn’t even know that such a place existed but lovely that it does. My fav was the water tower………..B:)

  • I guess when people talk about going on a walkabout and finding themselves you can say you really did that :)

  • I can’t believe you actually went to GOD’S country, as we called it. I didn’t see all the sandhills surounding!!

  • This was a “Kermit Everywhere” trip!
In Latin América, Kermit Frog is known as “La Rana René”. His name is changed from “Kermit” to “René”. Freaky.
