This summer we had a short weekend trip to Helsinki in Finland. I was really looking forward to seeing the sun at night which is what happens in the summer in Finland. I wasn’t disappointed.
Thanks to my map reading skills we found it easily. That looks like it’s going to be a big market…I wonder if they do fried flies to go in Finland?
After we had been to the market we had a stroll around (fried flies by the way are NOT on the menu in Finland in case you were wondering)
The ferry harbor wasn’t hard to find – hey, I’m a frog you know, I just follow my instinct to get to the water
LOTS of big ships here like this ferry ship – actually it was one just like this which we later made a short trip to Estonia on
We spent quite a long while at the ferry harbor because I just love watching all the ships and boats
I could have watched the ships all day but Markus and Conny reminded me that there was lots more to see yet so we set off again to find some of Helsinki’s famous landmarks.
We had to get a closer look of course – isn’t it lovely – think I’ll just sit here in the sun and take in the view
Oooh, I’d like to go and see that…Conny, Markus do you want to come with me to the Tomio…to the Tuomo…to the Tumimo…to over there? (I can’t say Tuomiokirkko Cathedral)
I’ve been practicing saying it…here we are at the Tuomiokirkko (yes!) Cathedral – Helsinki’s most famous landmark
Here I am at the Senaatintori (that’s Finnish for Senate Square) in the city center – a memorial in honor of Russian Alexander II
The sun went in for a little bit but it didn’t matter – I was so happy I had a little sing to myself…tra-la-la-la…oh, by the way, that big grand building you can see behind me is the Ministry of Finance
We have done a lot of walking and my legs got a little tired but we have had a really lovely time – but then of course we always do
